OPC Remote

Has anyone been able to get OPC Remote to install on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine?  Installation fails saying it needs 2008 SP2 or greater.

  • Which OPC Remote are you using… the one on the v11.3.x DVD?

No worries, Travis! Hope you'll be in Anaheim in a few weeks where we can catch up.

  • I attempted to install OPC remote as you did and ended up at the same road block because there is no service pack 2 for Server 2008 R2.  At first I tried to use the new OPC. NET structure; however it would not work with a 64 bit operating system.  I eventually ended up using a Kepware server and client software to bridge the OPC gap left by the unhelpful OPC remote software.

  • In reply to Adam Troeller:

We couldn't get remote to work in the sense of using a local OPC client (on W2K8 R2) to browse DeltaV tags (OPCWatchit to the locally registered DeltaV OPC Server), however, the user accounts that OPC remote created were used by the local client to connect to the DeltaV Application station (OPC server) remotely.

    Thanks for the responses!

I'm working with the 11.3.1 OPC Remote.

Client didn't want me to install a tunelling software seeing as the two machines are connected directly together, but yes I usually use Softing or Kepware tunneling.

I can register the components and do the DCOM manually, but it seemed like a bit too much work when the installer file could probably be updated fairly easily.

I'm also working with 11.3.1 OPC Remote and encountering the same issue "Windows Server 2008 SP2 or later must be installed".  We have Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 installed.  What do I need to do to get OPC Remote installed on my server?

  • In reply to jefreer:

Using a tunneling software seems to be the most reliable way to do it.

Has anyone tried the 12.3 OPC remote on R2 yet?

  • In reply to Travis Neale:

Yes Travis, we have 12.3 OPC remote on Win2008 R2 SP1 x64 and it's completely fine.

  • In reply to István Orbán:

    Great!  Thanks Istvan.
