Faceplates and search in Live not working

This has now been whittled down. I reinstalled my OS and DeltaV and used a backup to restore both configuration and Live. I was then not able to search for modules or open faceplates and detail displays of those modules. I can open function block contextual displays for them though.

I have now started from scratch with a new configuration database preserving the network definition and a new Live database. I then IMPORT the files I had made as a backup for DVDB and i grabbed files from a lab computer for the graphics since they were pretty much the same yet. I then IMPORTED these as well. Still doesn't work. But, I have found out that it DOES work when I assign a module to the PROPLUS instead of to my PK controller.  Guardian has run through all their help and hit a wall.

I have 15fp1 and the latest WS hotfix installed.

  • Solved.. kinda. So, the issue came down to me seeing the PK assignment not working for the module and it working when i assigned to the Proplus. So, i decided since i don't see any issue with the PK... i DO have another controller that we haven't put online yet since that part of the project isn't complete with construction so i can put it on the desk and fire it up. As soon as I downloaded the second controller.. the face plates and everything started working for the original controller.... No explanation.. but that is what it is. Now moving on to the dozen other problems i'm facing with Live.

Thanks for updating your findings. It is peculiar that assigning the module to a PK controller would not work, but does to the Pro Plus, or to another PK controller. Does the PK in question have any modules assigned to it successfully? if so, what is different about this module. But my first check would be to make sure the PK is at the current Firmware.

Compartmentalizing the issue to the Pro Plus and the PK eliminates the Auto Update service (yellow pages), which must update workstations with module node assignments. The master is the Pro Plus so it must work there to work anywhere.

Using Control Studio online, you can validate the underlying communications independent of Live. If you cannot open the module in Control Studio, the issue is not with Live. Obviously, if assigning the module in Explorer fails, then no one would be able to view it.

Why would a module assignment not work to the controller, but work to the Pro Plus? I'm thinking Firmware. The Pro plus will clearly be at the installed version, but the controllers likely need to be flashed, making sure the Active controller is at the matching revision. If some modules can be assigned but others cannot, there should be an error message as to the reason the assignment failed. Does this module contain a new feature not supported by the version of the controller? Hmm. Can't think of a specific example, but firmware mismatch is what I'm thinking.

I didn't even have to assign it to the other PK controller. That was my plan.. but as soon as i downloaded the second controller, the modules ALL started working for the other one.

Yes, the PK has been upgraded and a second check shows it is still. Curiously, the second one i had connected and downloaded is most certainly not...

I never had a problem with anything else aside from search and opening module level contextual displays. Control Studio was fine. I could open Function block faceplates, etc. Heck Live didn't even give me errors and all the data was being displayed correctly.

So, yep. Still a mystery. I also don't even have that other controller online anymore since I needed the switch ports on this managed switch for my workstation, i took it offline and the "fix" is still good.
