DeltaV operate on NON dell (HP) monitors

We are running  version 14.3 LTS.  The IT side of our company uses HP monitors   We are hoping to be able to use those same monitors on our Delta V system.    The monitors we are trying to use are HP EliteDisplay E223.   We are hoping to set them up with 1920 X 1080 resolution.  We have a quad monitor set up in a square configuration.  

No matter what we try we the graphics from the two top screens, monitors 1 and 4 , shows up on the monitors below, into monitors 2, and 3.   The part that shows on the lower monitors are a bit of the top of upper monitor.    We have attempted to adjust the layout using the KBA NK-1700-0207 which involves some convoluted setting using regedit of a matrix using the resolution of the monitors.   We attempted to "nudge"  the graphics into place using this matrix but could not get that work.  

A similar offset happens when we try a dual monitor setup.  However the two monitor offset is very small compared to the issue on the quad setup.

One other thing to note is everything works fine if we use a dual set up or the quad set up  in a horizontal configuration. 

My question is a two part.   Has anyone been successful in using a non Dell monitor and if so how did you set it up?   Maybe Deltav just does not like HP monitors???

  Monitors are getting smarter, with configurable resolutions, and that results in some bi-directional communication. DeltaV uses Dell computers with Dell monitors. So whatever HP is doing, it will not show up in product testing.
  
  Are you using Display ports with Display port cables (no DVI or HDMI converters) DP also has a lot of features with dynamic adjustments that can fowl up the quad layout if one monitor is lost, powered down. There is a KBA that discusses this and the solution is to use DP to HDMI or something, so that there is no active handshaking between the graphics card/DP ports and the monitors. If you can, try "dumming down" the cable connections.

  You might have to get familiar with EDID files and how to override the information coming back from the display. We've had to hand craft EDIDs on some computer and display combinations even with supported Dell hardware.

  Thanks for the feedback. The Dell workstations monitor ports are display port. We just tried using converters to go from DP to HDMI. That did not improve anything. We also just took two Dell monitors which we just purchased with a new operator station and connected them to the station which we are having trouble with. The Dell monitors have the same problem. I have an open GCS call on this now.

  Doug, putting "supported" monitors on the PC's was a smart move. You've reproduced an issue on supported hardware which gives the GSC the ability to replicate, maybe. Sometimes, when we do something to affect the environment of a computer, reverting to a previous position may not be possible without a re-installation of software. Ideally, a more surgical measure could be taken, but when the issues are unknown, dropping back and restarting puts everything back to "normal". Normal being a standard DeltaV install.
  
  What if by connecting the HP monitors, we've changed something in the Dell display ports and now we have the same issue with the Dell monitors? that is, connecting the Dell monitors did not undo what the HP monitors did. Assuming that it is the HP monitors that did it. Just putting that out there. If the GSC can reproduce or know what is causing this, great. If they cannot reproduce (because they don't have the same HP monitors), what is the next step?
  
  Did you reboot the computers? Do you have a restore image? Did this computer work correctly with Dell monitors before the HP monitors were connected? Do you have working computer with Dell Monitors and if you replace with HP, does the problem occur? (tricky as if it does, you have two computers affected) But this last suggestion would prove the HP monitors are introducing something to the video card/display ports.
  
  Working with the GSC is the best path forward. Just thinking that you may have to do some of the heavy lifting in troubleshooting since you have the HP Monitors in question. Good luck.

  You may also want to check that the Scale and layout is set to 100%. I had almost the same issue after installing a new non-Dell monitor when it is set to other than 100%.

  I would take a look at NK-1700-0207. I’ve also deleted my monitors out of registry and reconnected them in the manner you would like them to show up. Monitor 1 first and so on so forth. Windows 10 added lots in the manner of monitor configuration memory and I haven’t seen a way to reset this other than going into the registry. In a quad monitor setup, you would also set the XY positions in the registry to match what you are looking for.

  we tried the kba using the matrix. It did not help. We have used that regedit method often but in this case it did not fix our issue.

  Right now i am working with GCS and also with the company we have used for years helping us with configuration of our Delta V to see if they might have insight. The Dell monitors had the same issue. We checked and the graphics driver did revert back from the HP driver to the standard driver for Dell. We have not tried a restore image yet, i may try that though and try dell monitors from the start . Thanks again for giving me some things to try. Ill post back what we finally find out.

  Well I have successfully used HP monitors. I am not sure what the problem was. I was not totally involved in the work done when we were first trying the HP monitors so my guess is we inadvertently did something that caused the issue. What I did to make it work was:
  
  1. I loaded a DeltaV workstation image onto an Emerson workstation that had older Dell monitors with 1680 resolution.
  2. I ran workstation config to set it up to be the dual monitor workstation which I was trying to create.
  3. I set up the monitors to be stacked using the KBA 1700-0207.
  4. The workstation worked fine.
  5. I replaced the monitor cables which were display port converted to vga with straight display port cables. I then changed the monitors to be higher resolution Dell monitors at 1920 resolution .
  6. I used the KBA above to correct for the script error.
  7. The work station worked fine.
  8. I then replaced the dell monitors with the HP monitors, again using the KBA to correct the script error, and the workstation worked fine.
  9. One note was that in all instances a horizontal layout did not have any issue.
  
  I really thank you for your help. I am sorry that we were not more methodical in our work. I think if we had been more methodical then we would have had the issues we did
