Can a Pro(non-Proplus) engineering station be used as OPC server?

I have used the Proplus as an OPC Server in the past without issues, but was wondering if a Pro station can be setup as an OPC Server? Currently the system design is for one Pro station at local site, and one OPC App station at local site. I am wondering if we can consolidate the two functions into one PC box?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  • Hello Eric,

Only the ProfessionalPLUS (Up to 250 OPC Data Values) and the Application Station can be OPC Servers.

There is also an Excel Add-on License that can be applied to any workstation. This license enabled a 500 tag OPC server on that workstation. With Excel installed on that workstation, you can then load the Excel Add In to Excel and access real time data, and make manual changes to DeltaV values.

As for the ProfessionalPLUS 250 OPC Data values, this is an additional license (VE2223). You have the choice between this 250 tag license and the Excel Add In that unlocks 500 tags. You cannot assign both to the Pro Plus.

The Application Station license includes 250 OPC Tags and can be licensed with an additional 30,000 OPC Tag scale up licenses. The Excel Add In license cannot be assigned to the Application station. But the Excel Add In OPC Driver can be loaded in the Excel on the Application station to access the available OPC tags.

Generally, Excel Add In license VE2141 is intended to be added to a Professional, Operator or Maintenance station to provide Excel real time data, complementing the Report Writer Add in that provide access to the Continuous Historian.

The readme.txt of DeltaV Excel Addin requires Excel 2016 (32-bit). Is there a way to make Office 365 Excel work in DeltaV v14 ?
