Federated Search, the ultimate multi-instance Syncade search tool

One of the most useful functions that Syncade provides is the ability to search across instances of Syncade Document Control and Archiving.  The feature was driven years ago by a customer request to provide read-only access to corporate analytical procedures and also be able to view site level procedures – all in the same interface and through a common search function.  So for example if a new HPLC method was needed, the corporate method could be accessed and all sites that had an established method could be rapidly located and viewed at the same.  This provided a quick starting for creating a local version of the method.  The key was to control site level access by the site granting permission for searching, viewing and printing of site level mthods.

The Federated Search function is accessed from the main user interface toolbar for quick searches and sites just need to create a Federation file and forward to the sites that need access.  Once its imported the Federation can be accessed by all the users at the new site.

  • To add to this post once you have configured the federated search in one environment. You can easily export the settings which include the connection string and import them in your next DCA environment.

Export files with connection strings?  How are the credentials handled in the export file?
