VIDEO: Improve Magnetic Flowmeter Signal Stability for Slurry Processing

One of the most challenging applications in flow measurement is aggressive slurries such as those found in pulp and paper, metals and mining, and in oil & gas well fracturing. Due to the solids content in these applications, flow meter selection is limited as these particles can create blockage, plugging, or damage for many flow meter technologies. In this video, I will share how Emerson has uniquely designed magnetic flow meter applications (8782 Slurry Transmitter and MS Sensor for Slurries) to handle these common and frustrating issues to improve equipment life expectancy and cut through the noise interference.

  • @1:30 gathered a bunch of different noise samples from actual applications like pulp, mining, and oil wells

    @1:47 so we took all that information, used that to create our digital filtering and noise processing routines to help filter that out to provide the most stable signal

    Plants do not have to do all this data collection, data clearing, and data analytics themselves - they may not have enough data scientists to do it. Emerson's data scientists have already done it and built it into the the device

    I personally believe this is what data science should be like. Embedded in devices, just working out of the box, so you don't have to be a data scientist or programmer to train an algorithm to benefit from new information. Anyone can benefit from information. Just like anybody can watch TV; or YouTube.
