flow transmitter for measuring mud flow rate

Hi

What type of sensor and transmitter can be used for measuring mud fluid ( hydrulic oil mix with pvc powder)

  • Hi MOH -Not sure if you are in upstream oil and gas, however, the fluid sounds similar to what we measure on drilling returns, a mix of synthetic or natural oil with drilling solids and cuttings. Micro Motion’s ELITE meters are absolutely preferred for this type of solid-suspended-in-liquid measurement. With the lowest frequency Coriolis meter on the market, our ELITE meters make the most accurate mass flow and density measurements available. With no wearing parts in the flow path, Coriolis meters have no bearings, vanes or seals to worry about – giving extended performance without maintenance. Additionally, the use of Smart Meter Verification can give you confidence in case you are concerned about erosion – by verifying that the tubes have not suffered any erosion, one can leave the meter in service with confidence in both integrity and performance.

    Hope this helps!

  • Mohsenv - depending on the specific application, a DP flow wedge meter with remote seals also can be great for this application.

can i use positive displacment type?

Hi Mohsenv - Coriolis meters have no limitation on viscosity, however, the pressure drop through the meter will increase with increasing viscosity. It's important to compare available head versus pressure drop for expected flow rates. Working with your local Emerson Sales Rep, they can help you size the meter to accurately measure your viscous fluid with an acceptable pressure drop.
