4088B

Is anyone having an issue with 4088B not going into calibrate mode in the ROC? It either comes up with a run time error 13 or just says failure to get into calibration mode.

  • Wanted to pass along a few “Best Practices” for wiring and bus setup that have helped other 4088B users that have seen this issue:

    1. Use a "bus" topology and not a "star" or "stub" topology.
    2. Have termination (120 ohm) on each end of the bus. Typically this will mean the host termination is turned on, as well as termination at the last transmitter.
    3. Make sure the power supply and all devices on the bus are properly grounded.
    4. Use shielded cable.
    5. If there are transmitters (or a host) on the bus that have bias resistors, have one device that has both the “pull-up” and “pull-down” resistors turned on (but not more than 1 device).

I’m hoping these will solve the issues you’re seeing, but please let us know if you continue to have problems.
