Auto logoff on disconnected sessions on Terminal server (remote desktop management)

I would like the terminal server to free up sessions when it has a disconnected session, how this is currently configured the user would log off using the flexlock freeing up the session for other users but if they disconnect instead their session will be held indefinitely.

I found this Microsoft article there it looks like it would be as simple as setting the End a disconnected session parameter.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2008-R2-and-2008/cc754272(v=ws.11)?redirectedfrom=MSDN

My question is this as simple as changing this one parameter to x time or can that cause some un for seen problems as this might affect all remote sessions?

  • Setting the ‘End a disconnected session’ time value too low, may cause your work to be lost if your network connection drops. So definitely don’t set this to ‘1 minute’ or ‘5 minutes’.
