OPC AE Limits

Dear all,

We are using Application station DeltaV 11 as an OPC AE server. However, it works unstable and fails with Application Error DvOPCAE.exe.

My guess is in any kind of limits with OPC AE Server. We have a large events flow, 1-10 events in a second. Do you know about any documented limits with this? May be we have to use more than one APS?

We tried to change numbers of AREA related to this Application station, but it did not help.

Thanks in advance for your help.

BR, Alexander

  • Hi Alexander
I don't know what is causing you OPC AE failure, but what I can say it's not your amount of events... I was working on a very large DeltaV System 11.3.1 with more thousands events per seconds and OSI SOFT OPC A&E client never cause crash of DV OPC A&E Server

What is you A&E client ? Most of the time the crash is caused by client which are not handle memory properly. Can you try with different Clients ( a good stable example is OPC Matrikon ....

Thanks for your message. Not sure with AE client. The same with local Matrikon client - Application error DvOPCAE.exe and APPCRASH Windows Error Reporting
Will try to involve Emerson support, looks like system error and may it was fixed with patches earlier

Emerson does not provide hotfixes for 11.3.1 (generally). You can try to apply the most recent workstation bundle for v11.3.1 and see if that fixes the issue. Otherwise you have to plan for upgrading to at least v13.3.1.

Note that there is a special version of 11.3.x, I think it is called 11.3.2 but you have to consult Emerson what is the support structure for that release.
  • Hello Alexander,

How often does it fail? What did you do to recover?

Check if there is an issue with the DeltaVAdmin user on the PRO+, OPCAE server, and clients. Check also if the PRO+ and the OPCAE server has pending blue triangles that needs to be cleared in DeltaV Explorer.

Would like to recommend some things to try but it is better to get more information to better provide things to try.

You may want to post the Windows event logs that you get. Maybe at least show around 20 events before and after you get the "Application Error DvOPCAE.exe". This will give more information to the community.
