Getting Version control error message when trying to modify history from DeltaV explorer

Hey everyone,

We are currently having an error when trying to modify any history points from DeltaV explorer (right click on module in DeltaV explorer, click on history collection, and modify anything).

If we open up the module in control studio, the error does not happen.  Here is the error message we are getting:

1: ERROR: Unable to complete operation due to Version Control
2: ERROR: Failed to check out one or more items.
Unable to find component System Configuration/Control Strategies/WL3-UNIT8/U8DESAND/8-FIC-406
Unspecified error
3: ERROR: Unable to complete consequential change checkouts, adds or deletes
4: ERROR: Unable to commit update transaction

The above error is only an example, as this will happen to any module we try to modify.  The  Area/unit module/module will change with the new module, but the rest of the error message remains the same.

I discovered one random area that does not have this issue (not sure why it is different), and also found that if we MANUALLY check out a module, the error message does not occur.

We have version control set to automatically check in/check out the modules, so it appears vcat is failing to do this when we right click on a module in deltav explorer and this is causing the issue.

WE have also tried synchronizing the entire database, and checking in/check-in out every area in the plant manually.

If anyone has come across this issue or has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Jayme, did you ever get help with this question? I had a similar error message pop-up while trying to create a new phase and assign to a unit class at my site and was hoping to get some help in figuring out what the issue was.
