Does a DeltaV 14.3 system using DeltaV Live still need iFix services running?

I'd like to disable/remove iFix from a new DeltaV site (commissioned early this year), just for keeping the system clean. Not sure if it was accidentally included in the system install, but if it's not necessary, it'd be nice to keep the Proplus clean.

  • I would like to do a lot of things, but I don't...

Emerson will eventually remove the under pinning's of Operate in v17. In the meantime, the software environment of DeltaV is fully tested as it is installed. Removing directories and such from the system would create an unsupported environment and any issues created would necessitate reinstallation of the environment. You might give your self a momentary sense of order and satisfaction, only to regret it, or cause issues for others to deal with.

You will have to repeat this "clean up" on upgrades, and you could prevent hotfixes from successfully installing. Note that WS hotfixes contain updates for Operate and Live and if they fail to install you can't get the fixes you need in Live.

A couple of points to keep in mind:
    - DeltaV Module Properties/Displays still browses the Faceplate and Detail faceplates of Graphics-iFIX/PIC folders.
    - DVSYS interface is active in Live to support legacy links.

The Auto Update services is not used for Live displays but remains in the system. You might end up chasing replicated directories or later, when a workstation rebuilt or added, it may, unknowingly to the user, replicate the default graphics across the system.

You can remove the shortcuts from the start menus, disable Operate so it no longer appears on the Flex Lock bar. But I would let Emerson provide the removal of Operate and underlying components and keep your system in a "supported" configuration.

I recommend you leave it alone.
