DeltaV Live Layout

I have created a layout file. The screen is 24in with 16:10 aspect ratio.  When it opens in Live it does not stretch to the edge. I'm using a remote session and my monitor is 24" 16:10.  There is basically a big area on the right side that is not filled. It is however loading the correct layout file. So, that's a plus.

Can you post a pic of what the layout looks like in Live so we can see where the frames are setup? (I suggest naming the display frames like Main1, AlarmBanner1, AuxBar1, etc)

Also need to be aware that a 24 in monitor isn't always the same and you may have to adjust the layout settings for the screen. In Live if you pick a 24" for Screen Size it will be 20.918" x 11.766" but if you look at spec for a Dell E2423H 24" monitor it will show 20.75" x 11.67" viewing size which is different and I've seen other manufacturers different yet...It's crazy!!!!

Have you setup which layout to use in the DeltaV Live Administration\Workstation Management? Note: that Each Workstation and each individual session has individual configurations for the Layout, Display sets, Themes, etc.

IDK if you are replying to the latest comment. Maybe i should have just started a fresh thread...

Yes, I went through the process of tweaking the hell out of the actual dimensions using a combination of supposed data sheet numbers in terms of dimensions and using the resolution in combination with the state pixel density and it didn't get me far. In the end i just went back and forth and used my eyes to see if it was getting closer and bumping it a little. ... lol, much fun.

And yes, i'm using the workstation management.

So, the alarm banner isn't showing up in the bottom display frame, it's populating with presumably the same graphic as the top display frame.. hard to tell since it's so small, but it looks like it

Yeah at least I thought I was Thinking

Is the layout a dual monitor? I was wanting a pic of the Layout configuration in Graphics Studio and what version are you running with what workstation hotfix loaded? (v14 FP1 WS_12, v15 LTS WS_03...)

This shouldn't be that hard. But I understand the confusion.

First, for the missing Alarm banner Display, your Display Set needs to include it, typically assigned to the "non-hierarchical displays" section. Or make sure you select include all displays. If the display is not included in the assigned Display sets, it does not get published to the station and can't load.

The Size of displays is really irrelevant. Setting a Display to match a Display frame of a particular layout will set the aspect ratio of the display as well as the actual size. If display frames are different on different layouts, then the perfect fit on layout 1 is problematic on Layout 2. Hmm.

First, make sure you keep your display frames in all your layouts to be relatively close, especially in aspect ratio. My approach is to size my displays for a double navigation bar (aspect ratio wise). That way, on a display with three rows of tabs, the letter box is on the sides, and on a single tab row, the letter boxing is top and bottom.

You can also cheat the Alarm Display frame by making it taller than the alarm display, with some additional letter boxing in this area of the screen, allowing the process graphic display to remain within your target Frame size. You can also add an empty display frame to eat up any extra space and help position your function frames. If you start with a sizing rule, letter boxing will solve the issues. A sacrificial empty display frame can also be used to help get an aesthetic position. But that should be the exception, not the rule.

By managing the display frames in the layouts to be consistent with a plus or minus, you can use a consistent Display aspect ratio and load any display anywhere with minimal letterboxing. Aim for a median display aspect ration and not min or max size.

Once you have your desired aspect ratio, create a template display. When you create a new display, lock the aspect ratio. Then you can change the size of the display. The size of the display will determine the relative size of all the GEMs you add to it. You can add more GEMs by making the display bigger, and at run time, they will all appear smaller. As long as Aspect ratio is maintained, the displays fit in the display frames consistently.

Oh, no it's a quad setup. v15FP1.. haven't installed any hotfixes yet because my licensing still hasn't posted, runnning on an integrator dongle

Yeah, it shouldn't be that hard. But most things with displays that shouldn't be that hard in DeltaV even in Live, continue to be.

The missing alarm banner is included in the display set by virtue of the check box. Also, 2 of the other screens are loading it just fine. It's just a couple. Earlier it was just 1. At one point it was 3 of them.... Rhyme or reason?
