Operator graphics freezing

We are having a lot of problems with DeltaV Operate opening and closing faceplates very slowly, and with the graphics freezing or showing no communication.  We are having the problems only on the newer graphics that we created recently.  I have used DataDump to clear up all the refresh issues and any bad data links.
 
It does appear according to Operate Best Practices white paper that I have more data links on many of the graphics than what is the recommended maximum, and am trying to reduce that without losing the functionality of the graphics needed.  The workstation that we have the most problem on is the only workstation with 4 monitors.  I reduced the number of cached graphics from 5 to 3.
 
The workstations were installed in 2016, so are not out of date hardware.  It appears the CPU usage is high when a new graphic is opened.  The problem can be alleviated by rebooting the workstation, but it is a temporary fix.  All DeltaV updates were installed within the last couple of months when we upgraded to ver 11.3.1 from ver 11.3.  I can go out and look for any new ones. 
 
This is taking a tremendous amount of time and there is other work to do, but priority must be to allow the operator to work quickly when needed.

  • What antivirus (endpoint protection) software are you using? We have noticed some similar issues when we switched from Symantec to McAfee recently. Usually you can look in the application log to see what caused the system to freeze. In our case we saw that McAfee was the issue.
  • How interesting.  We are using McAfee which is our corporate standard.  I will check the application log to confirm if that is the issue.

    Hi . Can you confirm which version of McAfee antivirus you are running? Please keep in mind Emerson does not recommend or support McAfee antivirus off-the-shelf. This can be confusing because we do support off-the-shelf Symantec. For McAfee, we are offering "Endpoint Security for DeltaV Systems" directly from Emerson, which includes the policies and settings which are tailored to work with DeltaV. Certainly, if you install off-the-shelf antivirus without attention to these settings, there could be performance issues.
