VIM2 Physical Network Cabling

We have a VM VRTX 13.3 system and will soon be commissioning a Simplex VIM2 to talk to a skid mounted piece of equipment Modbus TCP.  While looking at the basic VIM Implementation Overview in BOL, the Plant Floor Ethernet Network (Shown in "GREEN") shows a physical ethernet connection from the ProPlus to that Plant Floor Network...AS WELL AS, what seems to be, the DV Primary network (Shown in "BLUE")  I can understand the connection from the Pro+ to the S-Series controller, but is the connection to the Plant Floor Network really required?  If so, please comment.  This may be an issue with the way that our VRTX blades are configured to the NIC's

  • The plant floor network connection is for VIMnet explorer to configure the VIM. Many sites install VIMnet explorer on a DeltaV workstation so the connection to the plant floor network is required. You could use another non-DeltaV computer for VIM configuration in which case that connection would not be required.
