physical alarm light

We have some very noisy areas in our plant and locations where the operators move around a lot.  These locations make it difficult to notify the operator using a standard PC sound when an alarm occurs.  On other systems we have wired up a dedicated alarm light and horn to notify the operators when an alarm occurs.   Has anyone developed a easy way to do something like this?

  • In Version 12 (or possibly earlier) there is a parameter '//WorkstationName'/HORN.CV' (eg '//WS1/HORN.CV') that is available in a control module. This has the value 0 if the alarm horn for that workstation is not sounding or a value equal to the priority of the alarm if an alarm is sounding. This can be used to control a digital output to operate a light or external horn.

I have more details of how to do this if you need them.

Is there a similar parameter to use for an alarm light to signal that there is one or more active alarms whether acknowledged or not? The horn parameter I'm assuming is for any unacknowledged alarms.
