Tag references from a Script

Starting with the final effect, it is very easy to get what causes will trip a given interlock from DeltaV Operate.  There are times that my operators need to go the opposite direction and determine where a given instrument is used in interlocks.  I can get that for them using the references command in DeltaV Explorer but I'd like for them to be able to get this information themselves when they need it.  Is it possible to run a script from Operate that would run the References routine and then filter the results for the type of tag that I'm looking for?

  • I am interested to see if there is any available parameter in DeltaV Operate to get the references. I think this would be a very nice feature in DeltaV and a lot of people would want this functionality including me.

In my previous project we provided an Excel sheet to operators where they filter the tags to get where else it was referenced or used. To me this is a little bit crude but the operators were happy to at least get the information on their own.

    Hi Ken & Neil
Yes, crossing referencing throught Operate is not easy.
I have developed a tool (TemplateCrossReference) to search where each DeltaV or Provox tag is use in displays and scripts :

A first 'server' program run on the ProPlus station and collect information to an local internal database at night.
All along the day, if a DeltaV controler is downloaded or a display modified, the server updates the references (if ProPlus station has no user working on = no keyboard or mouse activity)
A second 'Client' program is the user interface where the user can search a tag (or a tag comment) in this database.
The user can also find links between displays.

These programs don't need external composant and are safe for DeltaV Operate system.

By now, the programs works fine, but need some debuging work.
For the moment, Client and Server programs must be on the same ProPlus station. A new version that allows multi clients throught the network is ready but not tested.

If you are interested in, tell me.
I have some work to plan.
This tool is not a freeware.
