As a DeltaV user, you've likely benefited from the rich expertise of James Beall. But where and how did James begin? We hope this story with its nod to the 80's will inspire your own control journey...
Once upon a 1985 in Longview, Texas, James was on the DCS selection team at Eastman Chemical that purchased the very first PROVOX system for the organziation. The Emerson team (then Fisher-Rosemount Systems) that presented them with this unique offering was lead by none other than current President, Jim Nyquist. Jim's team then included Dennis Hyland, Don Holley and Sandy Bailey- all of whom are members of the Emerson Exchange 365 community. Since that time, if you're counting that's 32 years, James has presented at all but three occurrences of the PROVOX Users Group (PUG) and the Fisher-Rosemount Systems Users' Meeting, both of which would later become the renowned Emerson Global Users Exchange.
James first PUG presentation in 1987, which was done on an overhead projector, was titled Using Action DCD’s for Interlocks. Eventually, he represented Eastman in the role of Board of Directors President for the Fisher-Rosemount Systems Users' Meeting. Today, James works for Emerson and we affectionally refer to him as the "King of Control." He works with customers to implement control improvement projects in the chemical, refining, upstream and pharmaceutical industries. James has authored hundreds of articles and resources. Below are a few of our favorite papers, blogs and conversations from James Beall in the Emerson Exchange 365 community:
