Alarm enable bit

In v12 and v11 the Alarm Enable bit on the ALM function block is not the same as alarm enable bit on the alarm view in control studio and the detail faceplate(alarm enable checkbox).  What is the reason for two alarm enable bits, and is the ALM function block reserved for conditional alarming only?

Thanks & Regards

  • Gilbert,

The enable bits on the function blocks (AI, ALM, PID, etc) should be used for condition alarming (default is 1 in case nothing will be wired or written) while the other enable bit is the actual Alarm enable/disable bit (inform operator or not). They are two separate functions that could be used.

For example: You want Low Flow Alarm (LO_ALM enabled) but you only want to get it when the Pump has been running for minimum of 15 secs (ALM/LO_ENAB set by condition '//PUMP/DC1/PV_D.CV' = 'mtr2:START' and ALM/LO_ENAB_DELAY = 15)
