OPC Mirror Auto-start Operation

I powered-up my OPC server and the mirror started automatically.

But when I open the diagnostics, the pipes were deactivated.

I activated the pipes and waited for few minutes but the mapped items are still unable to pass through the mirror as it showed  ----> "Unknown item" for all.

So, I closed the diagnostics and restarted the mirror then re-opens the diagnostics and activated the pipes.

With this procedure, the mapped items worked fine.

Is this the only way to make it work or did I missed some configuration?

Is there a way to make everything work automatically like, pipe/s will automatically activate, no "unknown items" in mapped items, after switching ON the server?

Thanks for your answer/s.

  • I believe when you configure the pipe, you can set it to activate automatically. However to this day we find OPC mirror requires some care & feeding to keep it operational. I would estimate we have to reboot the Application station on which it runs 2-3 times a month. It is less since we reduced the number of pipes and the tags per pipe.
  • Hi Rein,

OPC Mirror has some strange quirks as you have found out and also as John mentions. What version of DeltaV and OPC Mirror are you using? I have had issues with it, but not quite the data flow issue you indicate.

To directly answer your question, John is correct. You can configure the pipes to automatically start and I have had good luck with that.

When you activate your pipes, how long do you wait before you give up? OPC mirror has a hard-coded delay time of 7 minutes (!) before it will attempt to recover the data transfer upon a communications loss with one of the OPC servers it links with. I'm not saying that the issue you see is related to that, but I am curious.

What are the other OPC servers that you are linking to (assuming one is DeltaV)? Is this a redundant DeltaV OPC Server/Mirror application? Have you tried re-installing OPC Mirror?

For these and other frustrations, I switched to using Kepware LinkMaster and most of my stability and performance problems were solved.

    Thanks sirs for your responses.
    DV v.11.3.
I waited for more than 7 mins.
    It's redundant server.
Is what I have experienced normal or not? I don't want to re-install the opc at this time. I want to find out first the workaround.

Good news. I just "enabled the pipes at start of opc," and voila, my problem is fixed.
