What causes workspace.exe failure?

Hello Colleagues

I have a remote client server for DeltaV v11.3.1 system. It has windows 2008 server (32 Bit ) operating system. This server has at the most four concurrent users using DeltaV applications. I am experiencing and seeing a numerous repeated events of Workspace.exe application failure in the reliability monitor. The server need to be rebooted to start functioning normal again for few weeks. What can be causing the workspace.exe application failures? Will you please share any ideas for troubleshooting and help me figure out the actions for preventing this malfunction? I will appreciate your inputs and valuable suggestions.

Thanks

Jaimin

  • Jaimin, You should log a call with the GSC. They have the resources to investigate this for you. They also have an extensive database of issues logged by many users, and may have a solution for this already. They will want you to bring the server to the latest Hotfixes, and if this does not resolve the issue, they can do more testing. They will have more questions, but the entire issue will be logged into the Call tracking System for future reference as well.

It is impossible to know what is causing your issue from what you posted. What error code is recorded when the program stops? Does it happen with one or two sessions? How much memory is installed? How much is free? Do you have sufficient Disk space? How much memory is Workspace using? Does memory keep growing (memory leak?). Answers lead to more questions until something is identified. This type of forum is not the best place to work through to a solution.

    Good luck,

Andre. Thanks for your reply and suggestions. Regarding the second paragraph of your post, the server has 4 GB installed memory. On normal conditions with two users, the memory usage is 2.11 GB (53%) of total physical memory. The memory used by workspace varies between 73MB to 98 MB depending on activity. The disk space is good. C partition has 63% free space and D partition has 98% space. I will check on memory leak and error codes in application and system logs to capture more information. I had checked on hot fixes for this version. I did not find anything specific to workspace.exe. In the meantime, I appreciate your reply as it helped me to check on several aspects before calling global support.
