Hi
I hope to use a Network designed AMS Device Manager system using a server plus station and one client. The system will connect to HART devices through Stahl remote IO, onto Delta V profibus DP and then into a T+H profibus to Ethernet module. The ethernet network is then connected to my client and server + stations. My question is below.
Does anyone know the maximum number of T+H profibus DP to Ethernet modules you can connect to a single networked AMS Device Manager server plus station? I need to connect more than 30 so if the limit is less than that does anyone know how to get round the problem without introducing a second Device Manager system?
Ian,
I don't know of a limit. I know it depends on the number of device tag you have purchase for your AMS. The max device tag is 30000 can be purchase on a AMS system. Do you have more than 30000 device tags?

Ian, I was curious, what are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to get the HART devices to AMS or all of your Profibus devices?
Hi,
so you are going to setup three different networks?
one through DeltaV.. ?
Stahl are they connected to DV ?
the third one where are the DP data going??

Ian, I could not find any limit on the number of gateway's on a system in the literature I have. I have three different sites using the HART over Profibus interface. One of them currently has 25 different T+H gateways with about 500 connected devices. The network is still growing and will end up with over 30 gateways as well. There are three different plant sites. Each site has its own separate DeltaV and AMS system. Each site is using HART over Profibus interface to communicate with R. Stahl IS-1 remote I/O systems. Generally, all DeltaV controllers in our systems has at least one Profibus network card. The R. Stahl I/O connects to DeltaV via a Profibus I/O card in the DeltaV rack. The DeltaV Profibus card is the master node on the Profibus network. Each R. Stahl cpm is a node. The T+H (now Softing, http://industrial.softing.com/en/communication/products/profibus/network-monitoring/th-link-profibus.html) xEPI2 gateway is also a node on the Profibus segment. One gateway is required for each separate Profibus network segment that has HART data available. Process control is done via DeltaV controller. It communicates to the R. Stahl I/O via Profibus DP. HART data from smart instruments goes to AMS via xEPI2 gateway. The gateway connects to AMS via ethernet.
