Event Chronicle on ProPlus Ver. 11.3.1

Hello everyone!

I have enabled Event Chronicle on PP.

It pops an system alarm " Event chronicle database not available" and alarm returns to normal after a minute or so.

I have checked Event Chronicle service and it is functional. I have also deleted all assigned areas, download PP, re-assigned them again one by one and download again but PP still generates an alarm.

Due to this error, process history view is not working as it can't find event database.

If any one has faced this sort of issue please inform how it was fixed.

Thanks in advance!

  • Have you set the default data servers in PHV?

The first time you run PHV the data servers are localhost, you need to configure this (from File menu -> Set Default Data Servers) and point to the configured Event Chronicle, the same is true for Continuous Historian.

    Adrian,

Yes, I have assigned these correctly on Operator Workstations.

But before I could make these functional, It is PP who is popping system alarm "Event Chronicle Database not available".

These were functional earlier during FAT, but after powering it up at site, I am facing this issue.

Might be the problem with the SQL database user rights? Contact the local Emerson office for assistance or if you have the Guradian agreement conatct Tech support or read article: AP-0900-0112.

    "

This Knowledge Base Article, AP-0900-0112, provides the procedure for manually backing up and restoring the Alarms and Events database during a workstation upgrade, rebuild, or swap-out on DeltaV v9.3 and later. It covers restoration performed ONLY on the same machine (re-installation of both the Operating System and DeltaV) or on a replacement machine (swap-out) as part of an upgrade or a workstation recovery procedure where the host name is preserved. The procedure does NOT cover restoring the Event Chronicle data on a machine with a different host name.

The Event Chronicle Administration provides tools to create, delete, and export event history data sets. Tools to back up and restore the Event Chronicle database are also provided by the application. The backup and restore features, however, are only applicable to the current data sets and unlike the Continuous Historian Administration, the Event Chronicle Administration cannot force the creation of a current data set. So, depending on the Alarms and Events configured properties and the amount of data stored on the active data set, few or much information will be lost upon restoration. This article provides additional steps (see Steps 1.2 and 2.1) that enable users to fully back up and restore the data from the active data set

  • What does the event chronicle administration tool tell you?

What does diagnostic tell you about the event chronicle, are events being collected? Is server shown available in diagnostics?

Is the Historian data working in PHV?

We have had this problem and it was down to the login access for the machine. When the machine is

booted up the windows account for that machine needs to be a windows administrator, but does not need

desktop access.  This allows the SQL to work across the domain. We use a generic login for each

machine called user1, and set up autoadmin logon in the registry, so that the machine will boot into the

graphics if there is a power outage.  This account had no user rights in deltav, but without the windows

adminstrator access set, both events and trending did not work.

  • In reply to James A Grimshaw:

    James,

Yes, I also observed that Event Chronicle database is not connected to if Windows log-in is Operator.

As suggested, I have created windows account as "user1" (administrative user access) and DeltaV account with same name as "user1" with no deltav keys assigned.

Windows auto-boot sequence is completed normally (registry modifed to user1 login).

Station does connect to database server (Duncan window appears) but doesn’t trigger DeltaV Operate after that.

I have noticed that if I login as administrator (windows) then DeltaV operate is triggered and DeltaV is auto-logged-in as administrator.

I think I am missing some step/link in between.

    Kindly advise

    Cheers

    Milind,

On FlexLock, click the upper left had icon and then select "Autorun DeltaV Operate" which will launch when logged in. You will need to login as someone with priviledges like the administrator before you can do this as your "user1" account will NOT be able to do this.

You can select the DeltaV Autologon but this will login as "user1" in your example and this may or may not be what you want.

    Regards,

    Matt

  • In reply to Matt Stoner:

    Matt,

Autorun DeltaV and auto login to deltaV is enabled in Operator or administrator windows login.

This is cause when I login as Windows administrator DeltaV Operate is launed with administrator log-in. and Operator if I login as Operator (windows login).

What I am looking for is auto administrator login on windows and Operator login in DeltaV.

Part 1 of this (windows auto login) is working but fails to trigger Deltav operate.

I am not sure if autorun is user specific.

    Cheers

    Milind

  • In reply to Milind P:

Just check task manger to see if operate is running in the background, if so you need to tick off, 'Autorun

DeltaV Operate' on the windows desktop then swap over to the Delta V desktop and again on the top left

hand of flexlock, re-tick  the 'Autorun DeltaV Operate'.  You wil have to do this while logged in as an

administrator as Matt says then reboot the machine, it should then launch operate on the deltav desktop.

We have given 'user1' view rights on one of our systems after auto login so that the alrms will still sound

but then an operator who owns the alarms must then login to check and clear the alarms.

    Hope this helps.
