DeltaV Explorer HART Device Configure Missing

We have two DeltaV System IDs.  On the ProPlus on one system, we have the option to configure a HART device using a limited version of AMS, without having an AMS license.  However, on the ProPlus on the other system, this option is not available.  We are logged in with administrator rights on both systems.

There might be other ways to get to this option, but here are the steps that we use:

  1. Log on to the ProPlus.
  2. Open DeltaV Explorer.
  3. Starting with the Physical Network, drill down to the Device you would like to configure.
  4. Right-click on the device to open the contextual menu.
  5. Select "Configure".

Here is the context menu on the system that does not have the "Configure" option.

How do I get to the "Configure" option on the system that does not show it?

  • AMS has to be installed and configured to work with DeltaV. Have you confirmed both of those are true on your system?
  • In reply to JoshC:

In addition to AMS being installed, the AMS Services have to be running. Once AMS is installed, there should be an AMS Icon in the system tray showing the status of the services. If it has the red circle and slash, then you can right click on it and select "Start Servers" as well as there is a check box to autostart that should be checked.
  • In reply to Matt Forbis:

That's true, but if I remember correctly, even if the service isn't running, the options in DeltaV Explorer aren't greyed out; just nothing happens if you click them.

I'm guessing AMS Device Manager is not installed. I tried a quick full text search in Guardian, but did not find an article for installing Device Manager. Does anyone know if there is a KBA, and if so, what is the number?
  • In reply to jgrunschel:

There's an AMS Device Manager Planning and Installation Guide. In it, is a chapter dedicated to DeltaV installations. There's not much to it, but there a few steps required to get it to work with DeltaV.

Thank you! I now have what I need to install AMS Device Manager. We are doing other updates, so once those are complete, I will install AMS DM.
  • I have this same issue. The difference is that mine was working on this same system 2 days ago... I've rebooted. Restarted all the services. Nothing. Same login, same licenses installed. Only thing i've done is installed a new controller that is not the one of question. I'm trying on the same devices that worked before also. And yes, of course AMS is installed.

I want to refresh this conversation. I have the issue that Configure doesn't show up. However, this is not consistent. It happens some days. Some days not. No rhyme or reason or fix i've found. Just works on days i don't need it to and vice versa
