Login options after workstation configuration (Domain)

I have installed DV on a Proplus after settting up redundant IDDCs. I gave my domain credentials during the install when asked and the PP was joined to the domain. Good, I logged in with domain account. Good. Workstation Config finished. Now after that, next step is to log in and download the PP, Setup workstations, create config files and etc. However, my first attempt was to again login with domain administrator, but now I get a "time and date difference exists" error and it won't log me in. So, I log into the local machine with the Emerson account. That worked. However, the DeltaV services don't start. Hmm. okay. So, I see the DeltaVAdmin account listed under the login in Services. So, I don't know what the default password for DeltaVAdmin is. Couldn't find reference in a KBA. No problem, I go to my IDDC and change it in the active directory. Okay, good. So, now I log into the domain with DeltaVAdmin. Still DV services don't start. So, I try the domain admin login again. This time I don't get any time and date error. But DV services still doesn't start. So, basically I don't know what i'm doing.... LOL. I'm going to just login with DeltaVAdmin and manually start the service  and go on with life.. but I have a number of other workstations to setup and want this to go smoother.

Thanks

  • There’s no “Default” DeltaVAdmin password after (If memory serves) v11.3. You’ll need to create your own unique password. If it needs to change, you’ll have to run Srvpwd.exe on each workstation node so they match
  • In reply to Nick Mason:

I changed it already on the IDDC active directory
  • In reply to TreyB:

That won't help you with regards to the service account. You will need to run the password utility mentioned previously on the machines which are built that do not have the password updated - the ProPlus in your case. When you add more machines you will be prompted to enter the new password during workstation configuration, so you won't need to manually run the utility on those.
  • In reply to Nick Mason:

Oh.... i see. so Changing the password in Active Directory doesn't change the password under the Log On tab for the services.. so. if I run Srvpwd.exe it will update all those services passwords.
  • In reply to Nick Mason:

Okay, Is srvpwd.exe supposed to get installed with DV? I can't seem to find it anywhere even on the installation drive.
  • In reply to TreyB:

I believe it’s located in the bin directory, but you can simply type it in the Windows search and it will pop up
  • In reply to Nick Mason:

yeah, that's why i ask because it didn't come up under search and i couldn't find it with a search in the media.

SUCCESS>. so i manually updated the passwords in Services. My service starts now like I expect. So, that's all good. I understand now what the services password is in relation to the DeltaVAdmin account. I had always just followed the setup document we have and now that we have a domain controller, things got a little messy.

I'd like to find that .exe though. I'm used to it always just coming up in the search bar as well.
  • In reply to TreyB:

    Whoops typo. It’s servpwd.exe
  • In reply to Nick Mason:

lol, yep. I've run it soo many times over the years, but yep. That's the one! Thanks

well, i had to rerun workstation configuration and it had a problem when entering the Services account password. Now I again can't start DV services, but for a different reason. I can't even open workstation configuration. I run Servpwd and it says it updated the windows account but not the DeltaV database. But, i can't start DV service because it says "Error 1075: The Dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion." SO, i'm pretty much just stuck here waiting on GSC to call me back.

Check in services that Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is running and its Startup Type is Automatic as shown below. You may need to correct the Startup Type if it is not set to Automatic and may need to manually start the service if it is not running.

  • The utility is in the \DeltaV\Bin directory to update the password for the DeltaVAdmin account - ServPwd.exe. You need to do this on all workstations.

yeah, that's not the problem.. and Yippeee. because I had a different problem i had to do this again. I now have the same issue. Last time I went so far as reinstalling DeltaV completely.. I'm looking to not do that. ServPwd is run..... but it says it didn't update the password in the DeltaV database..
