DeltaV 15.3.1 (LTS) Workstation Configuration Error - Can't join Workgroup/Domain

Hello,

Having some troubles installing DeltaV 15.3.1 as a Proplus station.

On the initial workstation configuration that occurs after DeltaV has been installed there is an error on the step called "Joining network".
The error says that "An error occurred while attempting to join the domain/workgroup WORKGROUP_PRO".

I've set the PC workgroup as "WORKGROUP_PRO" which I manually enter as the network name into the workstation configuration wizard.
It does not appear in the dropdown list for some reason. Network Type is set to 'WorkGroup' in the Wizard.

The error popup also mentions some things to check, like the network adapters. This station has three adapters (Primary/secondary/plant LAN). These adapters are working but not physically connected anywhere at the moment.
I've also tried using dummy loopback adapters but get the same error message.

The wizard is ran with on a administrator account as an administrator.

I've installed DeltaV 15.3.1 on a virtual machine before haven't encounter this issue.

I also don't quite get why we the PC needs to join a workgroup, when it is already in a workgroup.
Please excuse my lack of understanding regarding this. Maybe its is something obvious to people with more IT/DeltaV installation experience than me.

Best regards,
Simon

  • Was able to resolve the issue by re installing the operating system > connect the network adapters to a switch (just so they are connected to something) > and then installing DeltaV.

    Hope this helps someone else!

  • Have you tried removing the underscore?

In KBA NK-1900-0775 there is a note about upgrade planning that says "Microsoft is phasing out the support for underscore usage in machine names or domain names". Might be the same for a workgroup. The KBA is for v14.x but may be the same for v15.LTS.

    Hi David,

    Thanks for the KBA reference.

Yes, I did try putting the workstation into many different workgroups. Most of them without any odd characters like "_" etc but with no luck.
As said in the previous post, when i connected the NICs to a networkswitch the problem went away.
