We'll be upgrading from 12.3.1 to 14.FP2, but I'm wondering if anyone can help with a few questions that seem a bit confusing. Everything will be upgraded to Windows 10/Server 2016 as appropriate. ProPlus and Application Stations will have new server hardware.
My questions are really about the migration path and installation order. The documentation mentions installing the FP2 update to a system with LTS and FP1. It appears that there are a couple ways to get FP1 installed, either by installing LTS then applying FP1 update, or by using a full FP1 install media that doesn't require LTS first. So it seems like I should be able to use the full FP1 install media, then just use the FP2 update media to get there. It also says in the FP2 upgrade document that it will take a couple of hours for the update, so it seems like a much bigger install than just a slight update.
A couple of the things that still aren't clear, are whether any of the CSS updates need to be installed or not prior to applying FP2. It looks like there are different revisions between LTS and FP1, and that there aren't any available for FP2 yet.
Similarly, the MS Updates aren't the same between LTS, FP1, and FP2 media. I would have assumed that the LTS and it's MS Updates were fine when installing the FP1 update, but that when installing the FP1 full install without previously installing LTS that you'd only need the MS Updates that came on the FP1 media, but it doesn't include some of the updates that were on the LTS media. And the FP2 media also has its own set of updates. Basically, just trying to figure out if I install FP1, which updates do I need to install prior to FP2 (DeltaV or MS updates). And I'd assume I could install the MS cumulative batch updates after FP2.
Finally, I have a couple of new workstations that I wanted to get as far along as possible prior to our DeltaV upgrade. They are fresh out of the box, Window 10. Installed FP1 from the full install media which seemed to go OK. Got it to the point it wants to run Workstation Configuration (obviously not running it since we don't haven't upgraded the 12.3.1 to 14 at all yet). Tried installing the includes MS updates, and that appeared to go OK. Then tried updating the FP1 Windows 10 All MSUpdates and it just keeps saying that it's installed the prereq, then that the prereq isn't installed and that it will be. Tried manually running the updates and they just say they aren't applicable to the OS.
Tried moving on to the FP2 update and it's acting similar in that it seems to say it's installing, removing patches, needs to reboot, then starts over again. Unclear if it's actually making any progress or not. Can't figure out how to tell what version it thinks is installed. It certainly hasn't taken 2 hours, or seemed to actually install anything.
Anyways, mostly just trying to get a few new workstations setup as far as possible (hopefully ready to run Workstation Configuration) before the rest of the upgrade so there is a little less work to do later, but with the FPs and what seems to be FP specific patches, it's a little confusing.
It's also unclear whether after upgrading to FP1 if the entire system needs to be downloaded first (even controllers), or it that step could wait until after applying FP2.
