Whether it’s real-time control, communications, DeltaV SIS, redundancy / availability, security, or hardware-related—what would you ask the panel of Emerson technologists—Gary Law, Dave Denison, and Steve Dienstbier?
The panel members have been actively involved in the development of DeltaV and DeltaV SIS from their initial conception, and are currently engaged in the new products slated for the V12 release and beyond.
We’ll collect your questions in reply to this thread and have them posed to the panel.
The session will be recorded if you’re not able to join us live in Nashville on October 28 Friday sessions—9am in Governors Chamber C and 11am in Governors Chamber B.
Thanks in advance for your questions!
I wanted to ping everyone to see if they had any questions they'd like to direct to Gary, Dave, and Steve.
In reply to Jim Cahill:
Not sure if these are the right people to ask, but is there any way to auto-logout DeltaV operate after a set period of time, regardless of activity? Our security policy wants us to insure a new login in every shift change.
In reply to Danaca:
Danaca, I saw your message and passed it along to some of the DeltaV folks. I was told that nothing built in. There was a concern expressed that auto logoff can cause issues if the process needs quick attention and nobody is logged in to respond.
I know there are a few sessions on security at the Exchange that you may want to check out, or visit the DeltaV product managers in the exhibit area and ask about the forced logins at shift change.
I would be interested in a brief discussion on the impact of the number of CIOCs and CHARM I/O on SD controller loading. We are seeing significantly higher loading on controllers withe CHARMS compared to traditional redundant I/O.
There is one screen saver related to Deltav, if you activate it, automatic log off the system after specified period of time (i Check it in Deltav Ver6.3)
Hello. I just implemented the exact strategy you require at a customer's site. I work for Proconex, the local business partner for Emerson Process Management in the Philadelphia Area. Please contact me at Youssef.El-Bahtimy@ProconexDirect.com if you are interested in knowing more.
In reply to Jay Colclazier:
Was there an answer or a discussion on this (SD controller loading for CHARMS)?
Jim,
Where will the video be posted?
In reply to Travis Neale:
Travis, Thanks for your post. I'm checking with the guys on the panel to see what they have.
In reply to Youssef.El-Bahtimy:
Thanks Youssef!
Travis, We do have audio recordings of both sessions. I'm working with Gary, Dave, and Steve to get something out this week.
Do we need Industrial computers for deltav control network or PC's are enough for the control network plan?
Hi Jim. Any update on the DeltaV Deep Dive session Audio?
Thanks,
Travis
Travis, I'm ping'ing our DeltaV team back on this one. They wanted to review the contents of the audio. Let me find out the status and see if they can be posted or not.
Logic Solvers communicate with each other through the carriers over a two-channels local peer bus
and DeltaV I/O cards over one-channel. Why?
