Live standard image

I'm looking for where a standard image is located. For instance I open the S_AckSingleAlarm standard image and click on browse.. it doesn't open the location of the image. I can't find where these source images are located. I'm trying to determine where I am going to be putting standard custom images.  Browsing for a new created standard image I can choose from anywhere on the server. It would be ideal to group these in a similar way as the existing images.

Thanks

  • The standards are grouped by function and not type. There is some logic but one has to explore it.

There is a search utility but it mainly searches the tree so it does not find standards and functions. This is being looked at.

My take is to create my own set of folders and in some cases I'll move out of box standards to align with my vision. Kind of like taking over a kitchen and re organising the pantry so I can find the spices.

You can also create a new library and keep all your customizations in this method instead of using folders. Either option can be used but I think it is always better for someone to easily see what is custom and not Out of the Box configuration.

I agree with Matt on keeping customization separate for OOB.

However, I found a separate Library a challenge. If I customize an OOB GEM, it has all the standards and functions of the OOB library. With this modified GEM in a new library, do I copy all its sub components or does this item straddle both Libraries.

Do have keep the original version too? Now I have two versions of the same thing.

With folders, you can move items to new folders and it does not affect their use on displays. If you want to keep both OOB and new version you need to rename the copy as their can be no duplicate names.

All the Libaries are part of a database. And you can have different databases for different projects. So it's a personal preference on how you want to manage you custom versus OOB items.

What i'm actually looking for is the SOURCE file. So, yes, I have a new Library, which makes most sense regarding how we do everything in Configure. When I create a standard image.. I browse out and select the source .PNG,.JPEG, etc. When I go to the built in standards.. I understand where and how those are grouped in the Emerson Library, but the actual source file is what I'm looking for.

We have only been moving New objects to a new library and leaving the unmodified OOB items that are used in their original location.

The Product allows the changing of the OOB items and there is a selection to export modified items but we are discouraging this unless we know that there is a "fix" coming if an issue is found.

So far I'm haven't heard of confusion/issues with using new library yet but it's a personal preference for sure. We are also trying to make it easy to load SIS or PAS projects to existing systems easily while being backward compatible and we think using Libraries will make this achievable.

In this particular example the S_AckSingleAlarm is located under Library/Stardards/Emerson/Common folder and you can copy the standard, paste it where you want it or you can click the drop arrow by the image in the Configuration Pane and select Save As Picture to get the original image as a picture.
