MQ or SQ? Which one is better?

MQ or SQ? Which one is better?

  • Performance wise the MQ and SQ are identical and the difference comes down to a couple of things.

    1. Prior to DeltaV v14.3 S-series controllers is required to use Electronic Marshalling and Wireless I/O Cards. So SQ can connect to CIOCs and WIOCs pre v14.3, where MQ cannot.
    2. Preference for S-series vs M-series. S-series has a slightly larger footprint but have more flexibility in field power and ease of connecting I/O cards without using a screw to fasten to the back plane.

    I hope this helps.

  • What version of DeltaV are you using. in v14.3, they become equal in capability. prior to v14, the MQ runs a different OS than the SQ. So SQ would be "better" pre v14.

Pre v14, the SQ provides CHARMs as an IO option. So that also makes it "better".

But Better is in the eye of the beholder. I think the PK controller beats both of these hands down, but it is available in v14. IF you are planning to run v14, look at the PK controller.
