Historical Data Sources for DeltaV Operate Trend, v9.3

Trying to build an operator graphic with a trend containing historical data.  I guess the trend object is the default DeltaV trend object, the CFix2DChart object.

I inserted a trend object, tried to configure a pen.  I went through to the Data Source Browser, selected the Historical tab, nothing is shown.

I tried manually typing in a source name (DEFAULTHOST, etc) no luck.

I'm using DeltaV 9.3 + a PI Historian.

How do I create a historical data source?? Do I have to enable the DeltaV continuous historian??

  • I wanted to put out a ping to see if anyone had thoughts to share with Roberto... thanks for your help!

  • I received this from colleagues (Teague Chambers and Jarrett Young, PROCONEX) several years ago.

Embed historical trends directly onto a graphic:

    1.       Have your picture open

    2.       Select Insert >> OLE Object…

    3.       Select EmbeddedTrendCtrlControl

    4.       Size and position

    5.       Configure

    6.       Save picture

This may exist in other versions also, but we’re using DeltaV 11.3.

    Good Luck.

Thanks.  I was using a different control.

Now my problem is that it's not pulling up historical data.  I can't seem to figure out the right name for the PI server machine.  I tried "defaulthost", "localhost", I tried the name of the server, the IP address.  I must be using the wrong syntax.  i'll try some other names.

  • DeltaV v11.3 has new controls to embedded historical data trends in Display graphics.  These are part of the HCD enhancements.  I don't know if they are available for earlier versions of DeltaV.  Note this is on Windows 7, and not XP.

The iFIX chart objects only connect to the local OPC server and don't support history...

I'm not aware of any supported objects that will connect to the continuous historian.  Are you using Continuous Historian or Legacy PI system?  With CH, you get one license of OPC HDA so if you have an object that can call for data using OPC HDA, it could work.

Make sure you thouroughly test your solution.  If the object locks up, it could affect the operator's ability to access displays.

We've used the EmbeddedTrendCtrlControl that Youssef suggested on many projects on DeltaV 9.3 and higher.  I've only used it connected to the DeltaV Continuous Historian and hadn't tried it with PI.  It appears to be the same ActiveX control that is used by Process History View so it should be able to connect to either.  I was going to test on one of our systems but it looks like we don't have PI running anymore.

Is your PI historian on a DeltaV node or a computer outside the DeltaV system?  If it's outside there may be connection or security issues between your computer and the PI historian.

    Scott,
Are there any tips for setting the Historical Data Server address? I have tried defaulthost, the actual hostname of our PI machine (continuous historian), and the IP. I get a bad status or connection errors when viewing the data collection status.
Just not sure where to look. I get real time but no historical on the embedded trend
