Controller position in panel

Hi,

Based on space requirements a suggestion has been made to install the deltav  controllers and cards on the floor of a panel (i.e. Run din rail along the base with carriers flat on the floor). Would this proposal require any extra considerations?

Thanks

  • hi
can it is possible to draw the system architecture for the controller , power supply , io cards ,how it is fitted , main power supply , no of io in the system and its terminations in the panel and in the field side , terminations for the ethernet cables from that we can determine the weather the proposal required any extra material.

  • Heat dissipation would need to be considered, the vents on M series hardware are oriented for vertical mounting, i.e. the heat from components escape from the top of the module. You would be impinging on this design by mounting them flat on the floor of the cabinet.

Consider using the side walls of cabinets with vertical carriers, that might be a better solution.
  • Hi,

I agree with all the other replies here and want to add a few things.

    1. Installing on the bottom of the cabinet will void all hazardous area certifications.

    2. While the hardware may work installed on the bottom of the cabinet it will mean that the temperatures in the electronics will be higher than when installed normally in a cabinet. Running electronics at higher temperature decreases the expected life of the electronics. See Effects of Heat and Airflow Inside an Enclosure Whitepaper for more information.

    Best regards,
