Simulate Standalone - Database

I need some help with my standalone simulate machine.  The existing database on the machine has a ton of testing, conceptual "junk" in it.  So when I import a current version of the FHX export from my live system I still have the "junk".  I tried creating a new blank database & then making it the active one, then importing into it, but my simulate license is attached to the other database and therefore I have no abilities in the new one.  Is there a white paper for how do this or a recommended way to "purge the existing database" so I can import the updated one.  Thanks!

  • Jason,

You would need to load the standalone simulate license and assign it to the simulate Proplus and then download the Proplus. If you've done this and it still doesn't work, you may need to run the "Create Proplus" utility.
    1. Open database administration and shutdown the database server (option under file).
    2. Run Workstation Configuration Utility (look under All Programs / DeltaV / Installation.
    3. Select the "Create Proplus" option

I like to create a blank database with the license assigned and make sure it works with the simulate dongle. When I need to do a test, I just copy my blank database, make it active and then import.

Thanks!!! The piece I was overlooking yesterday was that I needed to re-download my License File for standalone simulate so that I could load it to the new database. Since I figured that out "after" I did the following to get what I needed.
I decommissioned every node in my simulate system, then deleted them.
Then I deleted all of my control areas & modules.
This left me with basically a "blank" database and a simulate Proplus that was licensed.
I then imported my FHX export from my live system and had exactly what I needed.

I am going to utilize your recommendation next time because that solution is cleaner/faster. Thanks for your help.

On a side note I noticed that none of my SIS modules came across. I am assuming that is because SIS simulation is not available. We are in 12.3.

A couple notes that may be helpful:

    1) Instead of downloading your license file, you can go to File ->Licensing->Create License File. This will roll all of your installed licenses into a single file you can load in your new database
    2) It sounds like you have a "clean" database, with a proplus and your licenses installed. This would be a good time to make a database copy (using the database administration tools )and call the database copy something like "clean database", this way the next time you need a new database, you can just "copy" that one from database admin, set it to active, and not worry about workstation config and loading licenses.
3)The "default administrator" account does not have any SIS privileges. At the bottom of explorer it will say "configure non-SIS." When you try and do a SIS import without privileges it wont bring in any of the SIS stuff.
    4) Finally, if you do have SIS privileges, you need to make sure your SIS Domains are named/created for the SIS items you are importing.

    Good luck!
