Unable to Download FF Device Positioner SRD991 Rev18 on DeltaV v11.

Our system had only DD files for  Invensys SRD991 Rev 9 and 16. I have a new device with Rev 18 to install

Over the weekend we have installed DD files on AMS and EWS(V11) from this link on fieldbus.org site:

http://www.fieldbus.org/index.php?option=com_mtree&task=viewlink&link_id=1736&ffbstatus=Registered&Itemid=324

The device was commissioned successfully and you can see the methods ,process variable and configuration setup on AMS and EWS by right click menu.

However I could not download!!. The download error log reads

  • Error: The name 041770 was not found in the context
  • Error: Unable to get field function block
  • Error unable to open field
  • Generating failed
  • Generating cancelling
  • Download canceled.

The troubleshooting I carried out

I discovered that of the three items checked for download: Fieldbus device 03FCV201, Fieldbus Alarms, and SRD991 Analog Output blocks the last one which is the AO block would not download.

I tried to upload function blocks from the field device, all uploaded except the : SRD991_AO-62/041770 SHED_OPT CV1

I checked the control module on Studio and saw that the AO block permitted mode, target mode and Normal mode are different from the fieldbus device viewing it from configuration setup. I tried to change these fieldbus device configuration setup AO block modes to match the control studio but the AOTB Mode was returning error. I could change the modes of Resource block , DI Transducer and DO transducer blocks from configuration setup but AO block proves sturbborn

Advise me

Emerson has sent me a link for DD files earlier I want to try that one. It has install.ini and .fhx in it unlike the one I have used from fieldbus site. Does that make sense?? If you have any help document on Un-installing DD files from AMS and EWS I would appreciate it.

If the problem is not DD file installed from fieldbus.org site what else could be the issue

Please save me urgently

  • 1.) So is 11.3.1 version installed and all hot fixes and patches? It is conceivable that Softing has updated the DD to include provisions for a later ITK which may not have been fully supported in the initial release of DeltaV 11.3 and / or AMS 11.x. DeltaV 11.3 and AMS 11.5 were tested for FF host compliance in 2011 but there have been changes and bug fixes.
2.) Did you install the DD from AMS or from DeltaV? Try installing the DD from the "other" application.
3.) See if the device has a method for invoking a "factory reset". Sometimes it's under methods and sometimes you can find it in the Resource block. If available, perform a "factory reset" and see if the download behavior changes.
4.) Reboot the ProPlus / ServerPlus. Cycle power to the positioner.

    Hope this helps.
  • In reply to John Rezabek:

Thanks for response. I installed the DD first from DeltaV Explorer. I checked and saw AMS did not pick the update, so I manually also installed on the AMS.
I had done reboot on both AMS and EWS. and retired download which also failed.
By tomorrow I will try power cycle on the positioner and also look for a factory reset as you suggested . I will feedback.
  • In reply to John Rezabek:

If you have AMS DM installed, I would installed your DD using the AMS DM DD install utility in Start>All Program>AMS Device Manager> then select Add Device Type. You will need to put this file somewhere on the pc harddrive and another thing, make sure the AMS version you have is listed in the ddinstal.ini file.
  • One other random thing I thought to try - decommission the device (make a spare) then place it in standby. Delete the placeholder from DeltaV explorer. Start over with "new fieldbus device" and configure a placeholder for the rev 18 positioner. Commission the device and see if download functions correctly . . . start with no function blocks assigned to the device (e.g., AO) - see if download works. Then assign AO or other function blocks in control studio. Be sure to "save" (module) and check the channel and XD_SCALE assignments - be certain they are valid for this device.
  • I had to replace the AO block with one from the DeltaV library in a similar case

Hi house, I have another DD link from Emerson now and I want to try using it. How do I remove the one from fieldbus.org in EWS and AMS. What is the removal procedure please!!
  • In reply to chigarthur:

    1) I am waiting for advice on how to remove DD file from AMS and EWS so I can add the one from Emerson same revision.
    2) Also please when I change placeholder revision from 16 to 18 in DV Explorer I get a dialog box of several Warnings like '' RSC000000/SER_NUM has been changed from the default but this parameter has no exact equivalent in the new device revision so its value has been lost in the conversion' . The parameters with warning are plenty from resource and transducer blocks. Please what does it mean?
  • In reply to chigarthur:

The new DD will overwrite the old one. I have never removed an old DD in 16+ years.
The warnings are normal - it just means that the new placeholder doesn't have all the same variables, or they're named something else.
  • In reply to Pieter Degier:

I am grateful for all your suggestions. I have checked all suggestions such as making sure write-lock on device enabled, Resource block has O/S Permitted mode checked which were okay. I then unassigned the existing AO block in Studio and download was successful. I then added a new AO block from DeltaV and assigned it and download was successful. I the configured the block parameters to look like the former AO I unassigned, then downloaded successfully again.
But the AO block output in studio is marked with a red 'X'. Could that be something I need to do on the SRD991 to get it working?
  • In reply to chigarthur:

It could mean one of the blocks is OOS or a configuration error. Check that the transducer and resource blocks are in "AUTO" as well as the AO block. Make sure you have compatible "channel" and "XD_SCALE" units. For many devices, Control Studio will filter the choices for channel and XD_SCALE - make sure the checkbox "show all choices" (or words to that effect) is NOT checked, in the dialog box for channel and XD_SCALE.

    Hi House
Thanks for all your contributions. We solved this problem by doing two things: 1) Delete and recreate the Place holder, (2) Cycled power to the field device. Then we were able to download.
