Communicate to CIOCs via Wireless

Hi,

I have a customer who has some water wells that they want to drop in some CIOC panels at.  The catch is that they are in an area where they don't have any existing fiber and the cost of running fiber to that area is pretty high.  They are wondering if they could use some high-speed radio communications to link the CIOC's back to the facility control network.

Specifically they are interested in the Tropos 6420 and Tropos 1410 mesh routers.

Can anyone provide me with some points to consider? Has anyone done this?

It seems innocent enough, assuming that the communications bandwidth and rate are acceptable. The I/O to be used is pretty basic: a handful of DI's, DO's, and AI's.  I am assuming that so long as the network can maintain sub 500ms ping rates, then DeltaV will be satisfied.

Thank you,

  • Extending the DeltaV ACN needs special attention so I would recommned you contact your local Emerson sales office to discuss this application.  You can refer to Emerson's Plant Wireless Network solution webpage for more information.

  • Your assumption for ping rate is wrong. CIOC communication time out is 200 ms.

I agree with MC and you should proceed carefully as this would not be supported.

Seems an RTU would be a better fit.
