Deltav Account Length

Hi.

On windows XP i changed minimum password length to 12 characters in local security policy. But deltav 10.3 account save only 8 password characters, as I understand it, and there is always an error about the password length. How to fix this?

  • DeltaV uses the Windows password, the User Manager defaults to showing •••••••• for a User password regardless of the number of chars in the password so there is nothing to fix.

When you set the password length in Windows XP local policy to 8, there is no error. And when you select password length 9, an error appears. Although everything works and the password needs to be entered 9 characters.

Error is in Windows when setting to length limit to 9? This is most likely because Users have passwords that don't satisfy that limit maybe. I have not messed with this in a long time but DeltaV doesn't have anything different for passwords and just uses the Windows Account.

What is the error and how is it presented? As Matt explained, DeltaV does not store the password or apply any rules on said passwords. So are you seeing a Windows error message or a DeltaV level message. Since everything appears to work, you will need to be clearer on the details. There also Windows Event Logs you can review to see if they shed any more light on the error. You could go back to 8 character password minimum length. Why change this? If you are doing this to promote more secure passwords, but you are still on windows XP, your real challenge is sitting on an old windows OS.
