Bulk Configuring Parameters on an On-Line System (During Comissioning)

We have a requirement to make changes to a Control Module Parameter for asignificant number of instances on a DeltaV 12.3 on-line system during comissioning.

There are two methods for doing this ....

  • Bulk Edit to submit to the off-line master. Then the module can be parked for download when convenient.

  • Make change on-line and upload the parameters to the on-line database. The issue here is that need to select the parameters to upload.

Which is generally the preferred method for making the change?

Is the Excel Add-In a supported method to write parameters to the on-line database in a comssioned system?

  • The Excel Add-in can be used. However, the OPC Server is set by default not to record writes, as the primary purpose of the OPC Server is to integrate data into DeltaV on a continuous basis. There is a setting to enable recording of writes into the event chronicle and the Upload files. If you are using the Pro Plus OPC server (250 tags), and this is not used for integrating PV type data, you could enable the recording and use excel. Do a test of one parameter to ensure you capture what you want. This will allow you to upload the values written once you are done.

Note that the OPC server is limited to 250 tags simultaneously. You'll need to close the Excel file to do the next 250 tags. It takes a few minutes for the server to flush unused parameter links. Closing the Excel file kills the client connection and the server will flush the tags and allow another 250 tags to be connected.

You can choose to leave this option enabled on the pro plus if the only writes to be done via that OPC Server are manually done. This will give traceability in Event Chronicle when changes are done from OPC on the PRo Plus.

If you need some assistance with setting the write capture on the OPC Server, let us know. I can't remember of the top of my head, but can look it up if you need.
