Removing access to a main display but keeping the diagram

Hi,

I need to remove access, for the operators, to one of our main display screens, at the moment it is available from the 'Display Directory' and 'Open Main Display' folder both on the toolbar.

I don't want to lose any of the items in the display, should we decide to re-use the display.

any help is greatly appreciated

You could put something in the startup section of the graphic in vb to call the last graphic open. That way it cannot be viewed but is not deleted from the graphics.
  • Lee,

Does anyone still need access to the this main display screen? Or is it just not needed at all for now? Does it present a problem for operators to open this main display (out of date, incorrect, etc.) or is it just a nuisance?

You could copy this display to another directory and then delete from the picture folder (including all the backup folders). You would always be able to copy the picture back. Any display with links to this display would generate an error if the link is clicked unless you make graphic edits.

You could also delete the reference to this main display from the Display Directory to reduce how often it would be selected. Then just place a big rectangle over the graphic with a note that it is not currently in use and redirect the user to the appropriate graphic. if one exists. You could also rename the graphic with a zzz in front putting it at the bottom of the list if the operator tries to browse for it.

I agree, a little more definition is required. If no one is to have access, back it up and delete it. If operators should not have access, why? Deltav parameter , field ,and function security should be exercised to limit access (to affect changes) by role, not via user interface restriction.
Failing this, you could set the windows file permission on the graphic file to remove read permissions from the deltav group, retaining it for deltav administrators group (assuming hmi windows login is not set as an administrator)
  • Hi, thanks for your responses, the display in question is a catalyst charging screen for a reactor where catalyst charging is not currently required, pipework has been removed etc, however it was decided to keep the screen (somewhere in the system) but remove access, should it be needed in the future, making re-installation much easier.

Is it possible to place the file itself elsewhere?, I have tried this but when I download the ProPlus and workstations the file re-appears

    Lee,

I remember the chuckle I received when asking "how do you delete a graphic in DeltaV" to one of our Emerson Local Business Partner reps after we received our first DeltaV system years ago.

It would be nice if Emerson made it easier, but you need to delete the graphic from at least 3 or 4 directories. And you would want to do this on each operator station as well. Where I previously worked, we used a command script on the proplus that would allow the user to input the graphicname to be deleted and delete from al required directories on all servers and workstations.

    ...DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\Pic\graphicname.grf
    ...DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\Pic\Backup\graphicname.grf

    ...DeltaV\DVData\YellowPages\Graphics-iFIX\Pic\graphicname.grf.Z
    ...DeltaV\DVData\YellowPages\Graphics-iFIX\Pic\Backup\graphicname.grf.Z

Michael, yes you are correct. Yellow Pages is actually attempting to keep the graphic and spread it around so you have to do as you suggest. Good answer.

As a former LBP employee, I wanted to mention that a trusted colleague of mine at Proconex (www.proconexdirect.com) developed a pretty nice utility for managing this function.
