Commissioning MD Plus Controller and I/O cards on DeltaV 12.3.1 software

Hi all,

I have DeltaV 12.3.1 system installed on Win 7, 64 bit Dell machine, it works correctly with SD Plus controller, I/O and CIOC. Now I am trying to commission MD Plus Controller on DeltaV 12.3.1 (same machine) before this process I have decommissioned SD Plus Controller. Connecting MD Plus Controller's primary and secondary network to v12.3.1 machine shows MD Plus controller under Decommissioned Nodes. Commissioning process takes all the time for Auto-Sensing cards yet commissioning was not done. Cancelling Auto - Sense leaves MD Plus controller with Red Cross mark. I also tried Controller Upgrade Utility but controller did not appear in dialog box.

I wonder if I am missing any step.

Your assistance would be highly appreciable.

Thanks and regards,

Jayesh

  • If you remove the new card from the backplane for 30 seconds, it will force decommissioning of the controller, I believe. You must physically remove it from the backplane, not just power it off. Put it back in place and it should appear once again in decommissioned nodes.
If autosensing is taking too long or failing, just commission it then perform the IO config manually.

Folllow Youssef suggestions, If that still don't work, try to check your Primary and Secondary connection.
DeltaV will only allow you to flash the controller if you have the Primary connection working. I don't believe it will work with only the secondary connection working.
MD Plus don't support CIOC or any S-Series DeltaV I/O cards preconfigure under the MD Plus hierarchy. If you drag and drop the controller into a placeholder, make sure the placeholder is configure for M-series controller not the S-Series.

I agree to both of your suggestions, I could successfully commission MD Plus controller on DeltaV 12.3.1. I can also flash LEDs on MD Plus controller. Yet, Auto-Sensing I/Os is taking longer time. I have checked it on Diagnostics, it shows Not Communicating status.

What type of I/O cards are you commissioning? Are they visible in the Controller Upgrade utility?

    Thanks,
I/O cards connected to MD Plus controller are two HART AI 4-20mA (eight channel) , HART AO, two fieldbus H1, Profibus DP and a Serial card. Yes, controller appears in upgrade controller utility. However, controller's Active Type and S/W Revision do not appear in upgrade selection list.\
I could commission the controller in DeltaV v10.3 successfully, so I could say its working correctly.

I meant do the cards appear in the controller upgrade utility?
You should flash the controller to the highest possible revision for the system you intend to use it on.
