Control studio error "The RPC server is unavailable"

Hi I'm using Simulate DV11.3 on a VmWare virtual machine.

Each time I try to switch module to "On line" state, I get a flurry of error message from Control Studio saying that "the RPC server is unavailable."
If I wait a moment, a new error message come and say : "The application's database connection has been lost or the server has stopped" (the server is running) and no way to shutdown tha database.

I have a look to Windows services and the RPC service is started.
I have done a ReRun and complete shutdown with no change.

Is anyone have an idea ?

  • Do you have an active network connection configured in the VM?

    Hi Adrian

No process network, if it is what you mean.

Just a network card to be able to connect the VM using "remote desktop" (using this way from many years)

"Charms" IO need a network device to be configurate ?

All modules blocks IO are NOT declared (fields are empty), so there is no link between blocks and Charms declaration (not yet).

Some minutes ago, I have found an important thing :

The modules are generaly "class based" and these modules are OK for on-line.

Only the modules that have been convert to classless generate this problems.

Is there a special thing to do when using these "de-classed" modules ? I don't think so.

  • Hi Jack,

My thinking was relating to RPC utilizing networking calls, so without an active network (virtual or physical) then you could encounter RPC issues.  However, if it is only with a specific type of module, then obviously it is configuration related not networking.

An obvious question but you have performed a full download of the app station where the modules are assigned?

What OS in the VM guest?

    Thanks Adrian

Network : Yes. A network card is present and works on the VM.
I use this network to log in the VM.
The network adapter is configured as "Bridged" connection.
I've try to add a network adapter configured as "NAT" connection.

Station node : Yes, i have perform multiple download.
Thanks to remember this kind of detail ;-)

OS : VM guest OS is W7-32 (US)
    Host OS is W7-64 (French)

    -----

Unfortunately, I encounter other abnormal behaviour on this machine :
i.e. : In a fresh new SFC module, changing the Step name is impossible and the message is "The name 'S1NEW' was not found in this context".
Strange error because, of course, the new name I set doesn't exists in this SFC.
(I have also try to 'Clean the database')

DV software seems to have lost control.
I'll rebuild a new VM this week-end ... when the weather is going to be so beautiful in Normandy ...

    I'll keep you informed.

  • In reply to Jack_France:

    Well; This week-end was productive.

I create a new virtual machine and reinstall DV.

When performing DV installation, I realized that the DV version installed previously was 11.3, and not 11.3.1

After installing the complete 11.3.1 version, then upgrade and reimport my datas, all works correctly.

So, was it the DV 11.3 that have a serious problem with RPC Server or my machine that was bugged : I don't know.

The main info is that DV on-line works correctly now.

Thanks again, Adrian, for your ideas.
