DeltaV Excel Add-in

Hi, has anyone any experience using the DeltaV Excel Add-in to AUTOMATICALLY write values to a module? without having to click the manual update button in the menu bar? if so I would be interested in seeing your vbscript. I've copy and modified the DeltaV Excel Add-in vba code and am having some intermittent issues.

1) A message about having no time interval set, so a default of 0 will be used.

2) A message about having no cells selected that contain DeltaV write functions. I seem to get this if I save my excel spread sheet with a range a cells selected that don't contain the DeltaV write function.

In DV 7.4.1 , App station can not be redundant, so I think you are speaking a second historian server….
    On this second historian server,
    - Check if the Excel version is the right version supported by DV 7.4.1 ( As 7.4.1 is a prehistoric version, I Don't remember which version and OS but only 32bits version of Excel are working for addin
    - start Excel on a new sheet
    - then browse to open c:\deltav\excel\deltav.xla
    - then open the report file
  • In reply to LaurentB:

we use the version DV7.4.2 .on each historian server there is file deltav.xla on c/deltav/excel folder.and each server creates the same report files .
the OS of each historian server is windows server 2003 ,
the report files retrieve data from 4 different field(4 different report files are created, report of field 1,report of field 2,report of field 3,report of field 4)
each report file can be created automatically and send in an other workstation and send via email,it can also be created manually.
now the historian server 1 is creating report file automatically of 2 field only and we can not create file reports manually
in thehe historian server 2 report files can not be created automatically and manually
    we use excel 2003 version.
in the historain server 1 when i started excel sheet and browsed to open deltav.xla I found the file opened file empty
in the historian server 2 when i started excel sheet and browsed to open deltav.xla I got the following message error:Microsoft excel A document with the name DeltaV.xla is alraedy open, you cannot open two documents with the same name, even if the documents are in different folders.to open the second document, either close the document thats currently open,or rename one of the documents.

Is there any solution or do I have to do the restore of the historian server?

  • In reply to timalg:

I don't see how your issue is related to the Historian Server, or how restoring this machine would address an issue in the DeltaV excel addin.

But v7.4.1 is very far in my past and I simply don't have any resources to go to in order to provide you with any further assistance. This was the first release of the DV CH (Continuous Historian) and replaced OSI PI.

You've mentioned DVREAD and DVWRITE, which will be OPC DA runtime data, and also DVCHVALUE, which would be a History Server call.

The only thing I can suggest to you is to start fresh and review the installation requirements for the Excel Addins. Start with a fresh sheet and create some test references using the configuration dialogs and walking through the creation of some runtime reads and history reads.

This will do two things. a) ground you on the syntax of all these commands and b) if they work in this sheet, will tell you the issue is in how you've copied the file or how the file is configured. Since the Addins were VB based and could be modified, we have no idea if your issues are caused by VB customizations, incomplete fields in the spread sheet or a more foundational issue.

But if the Historian is collecting data, and you can view trends from it in PHV, and you can read data with OPC Watchit, your issue is not likely related to the DeltaV software, but to something in the spreadsheet. Drastic action to restore the server does not seem warranted.

Do you have the option DeltaV Real-time Data, v4.1 checked? See below

  • In reply to Lun.Raznik:

HI Lun,yes this option is chekced
  • In reply to timalg:

May I get a copy of the Excel file? Lun.Raznik@gmail.com
  • In reply to Lun.Raznik:

    I have just sent it
  • In reply to Lun.Raznik:

    Got the files.

I saw one challenging item for your issue. DeltaV Reporter functionality is used in the worksheet. Unfortunately, if I remember correctly, DeltaV Reporter was released beginning DeltaV v9.3.x.

Can you use OPC Mirror to get data from v7.4.2 system into the other newer system?
  • In reply to Lun.Raznik:

Or you can use SyTech XL Reporter. But you do have to check it they still support Excel 2003.
  • In reply to Lun.Raznik:

    Hi Lun,
please can you explain; Can you use OPC Mirror to get data from v7.4.2 system into the other newer system?
so there is not any other solution?
  • In reply to Lun.Raznik:

Hello. I represent SyTech XLReporter. Since XLReporter V12.6 we have been giving users Workbook functionality without requiring Microsoft Excel. This makes the end solution reliable, stable and independant of the Excel version. The write functionality which you need is supported. You can get an evaluation of the product from www.sytech.com and can contact me, bills@sytech.com for any assistance. Thank you. Bill
  • In reply to timalg:

Using OPC Mirror is one option to get data from v7.4.2 to your newer system? I am assuming that you have new system as the Excel file that you sent me used DeltaV Reporter.

If you take the OPC Mirror route, you have to create landing module on the newer system, then historize that value so that you can use the same Excel worksheet for reporting purposes.

Have you tried engaging with local business partner or impact partner to help with your situation?

     Update from Emerson Exchange 365
    LaurentB

In old version version DeltaV Writes function is accessible into VBA project on XLA . Find deltav Writes function ( remove the msg box code lines)
Create your own macro to run the "modified DeltaV Writes function" , but in your code before running the DeltaV Write , in yuor code you have to select all the cells
    Sheets("Feuil1").Select
    Cells.Select
    frs.deltavwrites

also how delta v continuous historian send data to the excel file => it 's more accurate to say How Excel can read into DV Continous historian

Do to this you have to install DeltaV Excel reporter which install also addins into Excel like excel addin. In most recent version of DeltaV , DV Reporter installer is on DVD disk 1

In older version of DeltaV , DeltaV Continuous Historian was build on PI , so PI datalink was working , but less powerfull to create scheduled task
