Display Monitor Connections

Is there any preference as to which video connectors to use, the newer Dell monitors now have DisplayPort(DP) connectors and so do most of the new workstations, yet the specs still refer to DVI/VGA connections.  There shouldn't be any issue in using DP connectors should there? Resolution and color settings are the same regardless.

  • I believe many folks have used a DP to DVI adapter where required by the monitor being used.

  • That’s as I understand it, but most of the new video cards have DP and so do the monitors, therefore, can’t I use a direct DP to DP cable instead?

  • I don’t see any reason why not.

  • There are two DeltaV KBAs regarding dual and quad monitor cards (AK-1000-0108 for T3500, R5400 and R5500 and NK-1300-0127 for T3600).  No details are given but both explicitly say to not use both DP ports on a card (specifically the one closest to the DVI connector).  The KBAs also only mention only DVI or VGA connections to monitors most likely due to DP only connections not being fully tested.
