It says that the standby controller power directory files are not present. The standby sx controller cannot be powered up and show that the cmmunication is bad. How to reset my power up directory so that it may have the old standby controller files.

    Hello Andre,

As you have mentioned above that if a standby controller is removed from its slot in redundant config its MAC address will be released from controller properties but this is not happening with my system. I am having an issue in which the faulty standby controller is removed from it's slot but it's MAC address is still present present in the controller properties due to which when I put a new controller in the slot it just go to error state and does not try to sync with the primary or from the database. Any way forward to sort it out other than shutting down, decommission and re-commission.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Ray Hey.

We had a similar issue a couple of weeks ago with a MDplus controller not releasing the MAC address of the standby when we attempted to replace it. Our problem ended up being a bad (deltaV) power supply. I only skimmed the thread, but have you tried replacing the power supply?

to be clear, the active controller is supposed to inform the proplus that its standby has been removed. the standy is out of the picture.

the MAC address is held in the database and the powerup directory. this involves some multicast messaging. I've observed issues where the Multicast address group is not set up correctly or is blocked by IGMP being enabled on 3rd party switches.

if the ProPlus does not get the update that standby was removed, it still thinks the MAC address belongs to this node.

warning. if you install the removed controller in another location, it will likely commission to the same node and could disrupt operation of the remaining active controller.

hmm. using diagnostics confirm that the Multicast counter is incremmenting every 15 second or so. use multicast ping option. if that is not responding that would explain inability to free up MAC address.

    should log this with GSC.
