Merging 2 x separate Pro+ databases

Hi

We are planning to commission 2 x DeltaV networks separately (Controllers & SLS logic solvers) then merge the 2 x networks together at a later stage.

In our plan will be a master Pro+ and a temporary Pro+. We plan to de-commission the associated Controllers and SLS logic solvers connected to the temporary Pro+ with any non-essential plant running as a hot cut over.

Then after connecting those Controllers and SLS networks (once associated with the temporary Pro+) together, we intend to commision the these nodes from the Master Pro+.

Can anyone tell me what the steps would be?

I have been informed we would still need to do a download to the new nodes (once associated with the temporary Pro+) but this would mean Controller shut down and therefore the merging of the 2 x networks cannot be done as a hot cutover right?

Thanks

BR

I concur with all of Andres great guidance.

With Emerson as your resources you couldn't be in a better position to obtain access to their vast technical support team knowledge and I would pose these question directly to that team. Make sure it gets elevated through to product engineering who will give you the exact reasons and any potential options. Your situation may be analogous to a master Proplus partial failure. I understand there are ways their technical experts can perform a Proplus switchout without need for total controller downloads providing you are able to recover certain information stored in the power up folders of the Proplus (in this case it would be from the temporary Proplus). It may be worth considering/suggesting this scenario to trigger some ideas.

You are asking the correct questions and it sounds as though your plan will be formed after some trials of your proposed scenarios. document this well and ensure all engineers involved in the development/commissioning of the system are educated on the approach so they all help in providing success.

"You mention the position of “configuration item gate keeper”, what would be his role if there is a configuration manager?"

You wouldn't believe how hard it is to manage multiple DeltaV configuration databases with multiple development and test engineers involved and the pressure of deadline push. Someone who is responsible for knowing what is happening on each system, the person would be responsible for configuration transfer between systems and policing of practices. Yes you could use one of the other engineers or the lead, but someone with focus who doesn't let their activities slip when other project priorities attract their focus is essential. Only one slip in the process could cause you considerable pain. You may want to consider the role as a "technical quality manager"

Good luck for your coming challenges.

    Neil.
