DeltaV Control Studio "Read Only"

All of the sudden, when trying to make a change to a control module in DeltaV Control Studio today, I noticed that I am unable to open anything in Write Mode.  By default, everything is opening as "Read Only" and I cannot figure out how to change it.  My account is an administrator account and I have done plenty of editing on it in the past, so I don't know what would have changed.  I am worried that this means our license has run out or something.  Anyone have an ideas for figuring out what the problem is?

Thanks

  • Are you sure you've logged into DeltaV? I run into this a lot where people log into a session on the ProPlus but then don't remember to open FlexLock and log into DeltaV. The only other thing that comes to mind is you've opened Class based modules in Control Studio and they open read only.

Are you trying to open a instance that is class based? Editing class base instances can only be done at the DeltaV Explorer.

Is this on a Pro/Term station and if so, check to make sure that license is still assigned and downloaded.

Check to make sure that the dongle is still attached and DeltaV explorer recognizes it. We have been seeing some issues with virtualization and 'loosing' the dongle even when still attached.

If you have recently enable Version Control, You will need to check-out the entity you are trying to modify before you can edit.

    Good luck,

If you are using a production system license, your licensing cannot "run-out".

Here are various reasons you can't edit a module in Control studio:

    1. Version Control is enabled and you have not checked out the module.

    2. The module instance is a member of a module class, which means you can only edit 'configurable parameters' from DeltaV Explorer.  You can edit the class in Control studio.

    3. The module is on-line, or in debug in the control studio client (Note that while on-line you can make on-line parameter changes only.)

    4. You have not logged into DeltaV prior to opening control studio.

    5. You have opened the module as 'Read Only' from the Control studio menu (in the event the module is already opened in control stuiod by another user).

    6. You do not have the configuration key for the area in which the module resides.

There are several ways to open modules in control studio.  You may get slightly different results depending how it is opened.

    1.  Right click module in Explorer and select open in control studio

    2.  Open control studio first by clicking on the Control studio icon in Explorer or Operate, from Windows Start->DeltaV menus, or from command line (CS.exe), then browse to the module in the Open dialog.

    3.  Click control studio icon on a module's faceplate in Operate (this will open the module in Read only On line mode)

  • Dear friend
I found like this problem .
    Solution
    Before open with control studio
1 select control module and right click
2 go to convert to classless and choose control module then open control module with control studio.
You can change in control module now

Unless you actually intend to remove the link between the module and the class, that's a very bad idea. Once you've done that, you now have a standalone module that is not connected to it's parent class. If acceptance testing or validation was performed on the parent class, you've now invalidated that testing.

As Youssef stated above, if it is a class based module, you can make changes to the parameters that are configurable within DeltaV explorer.

One SUPER important note about class....

If you make a change to the parent class, ALL instances will need to be downloaded.
  • Well this is something u did not mention earlier.. But I also change class modules limit or at times expressions.. Never converted to class module.. Once I did it to change the logic but never had dis problem of data u mentioned earlier.
