PHV hangs when continuously pressing Scroll buttons <<

Hi,

I'm facing an issue at the site. When the operator presses the Scroll Back << button continuously in the PHVE, the application Hangs. I would like to know why this happens.

  When you say "continuously presses" do you mean click and hold or reptetitively click? What is the time span of the trend that the operator is viewing?

  It's a repetitive click and the time span was 1 day.

  We had a similar problem some time ago which was due to problems retrieving the events from the event server. In our case we solved the issue by adding a hosts file as it seemed the system was having problems resolving the name of the Event server workstation. Each click added another request so a queue built up that took a very long time to sort out.
  
  Presumably with a phv chart there is not problem. Have you got more than one events server? If so you could try changing the default events server? Is the continuous and event information coming from the same workstation? Does this happen with all phve charts or just ones where there are lots of associated events?

  We have configured forward and reverse lookup zones. Is it like having the host file will improve the performance?
  
  We have one Event server in OWS with an active/current data set size set to 100 MB and one Continuous Historian in the Application Station.
  
  It happens with all PHVE charts and there are lots of associated events recorded.

  We had the problem on a system that is a workgroup environment. I think the hosts file is the equivalent of lookup zones in a domain environment so it seems you have already applied the fix that worked for us.
  
  I'm afraid I don't have enough experience to say whether it might be simply to do with the number of events being retrieved. 100MB is certainly not big for the Event Chronicle. Did you confirm that it only occurs with phve charts and not with phvc (which is what I meant earlier)? Are there any errors being reported for the Event Chronicle in diagnostics etc? And the standard question, has it started recently and, if so, what changed? Maybe just a new impatient operator!
