The move to biobutanol?

I posted on Jim's blog this morning a discussion about the closing of a small ethanol producer in North Dakota and what that might mean for the industry. I was catching up on some news today and read that there are four small ethanol plants that have signed up with Butamax to prodcue biobutanol at their facilities.

I think this announcement just further emphasizes the pressures on the ethanol business. I don't know these plants personally, but if I had to guess, they are all on "the margin" and are looking for a means out of the oversupplied ethanol market.

What do you think, is biobutanol a means to bring smaller producers to better profitability? Do you think biobutanol is something that will or won't catch on in the long run?
