Resolving Customer Pain with Fisher Severe Service Control Valve Solutions

Problem:

After struggling with reliability and safety issues due to repeated severe packing leaks with a competitor’s sever service construction, a large Power generation facility in the Midwest decided it was time to address the problem with a better technology.  After being installed in 2004, the control valves had always been a risk with over 10 severe packing leaks that create hazardous working conditions and reduce the operating efficiencies of the facility.  After a catastrophic plug/stem failure in 2015, the facility called upon Emerson Process Management for a Fisher control valve to address this critical application.

Solution:

With the severe process conditions presented by the high pressure superheated steam, it was critical that a control valve capable of noise reduction and vibration resistance be specified for this application.  With all of the challenges addressed, the customer installed a pair of NPS 1.5” Fisher HPS globe valves into this application, with one being expedited through the Quick Ship program in response to another unplanned outage due to a failure of the competitor’s valve.

Results:

Once installed, the Fisher HPS globe valves with Whisper-III trim technology and remote mounted DVC 6200 have provide reliable control of the steam to ensure proper operation of the facilities soot blowers.
