DVC6000 Series FIELDVUE Digital Valve Controllers for Safety Instrumented System (SIS) Solutions

We using the above controller in natural gas reducing station as emergency shut-off valve, the valve closed many times during last 2 years without losing the compressed air or current mA from PLC, last Friday the valve closed 3 times in 10 min. the climate was foggy, usually the valve close during sand storms or foggy climate.

    We have not seen DVC6000 SIS closing or taking valve to safe state without command from HOST. May you please ensure that configuration and set up are rightly done for DVC6000 SIS before taking on line. It has no internal commands to close on its own as it is output device commanded by PLC or Logic Solver. Foggy or dusty storming climate should not close the valve until all wiring and connections to DVC are in proper conditions. What happens after the valve closure? Does it come back on its own? I would highly encourage to contact your local Emerson service team to look into the issue.

    After closure, the operator reset the fail to open alarm from the HMI then he goes to the valve then reset and open again from it's LCP. we have contacted Emerson support last year where they sent us one of their engineers and he checked the valve settings and it was found OK but he recommended us to replace the valve with new one since the valve is working more than 5 years!.on our historical alarms and events I'm receiving the following events:
    1. ESV Valve Opened which means the PLC lost the opens position feedback for 10 seconds, open position feedback is digital input signal in our case.
    2. When the PLC losing the open position feedback it will trigger fail to open alarms and remove the 20 mA.

    Khaled,
    Looks like that Valve may be drifting from its normal position and travel deviation limit set for DI is too close setting alert in PLC. Assuming valve is rotary type.
    Would it be possible to send me complete schematics of current implementation with all electrical and pneumatic connections along with valve details. I would also like to have details of all limit switch including DI used in Cause and effect matrix. Do you know, if valve is normally OPEN and FAIL Safe CLOSE?
