Measuring vacuum tower bottoms level

Good day,

At the Refinery, we use a DP Level Transmitter with 1199 Diaphragm Seal System to measure Vacuum tower bottoms in combination with a wet leg for the low pressure sensor (Figure 1). When bottoms level raises over the upper tap (B), wet leg its contaminated and level measurement goes to an unknow value.

We are planning to install an ERS to eliminate the wet leg. Could it work installing the secondary sensor at the upper tap (B)?

  • Hi Mark,

You can install the secondary sensor at the upper tap (this is typically how it is installed). Another addition you may want to consider is the Thermal Range Expander, we have seen others have success in similar applications when the process temperatures are greater than the standard direct mount seal temperature limits.
